Review: Absolution - Angela Louise McGurk

Absolution by Angela Louise McGurk Sarah-Jane's rating: 4 of 5 stars I think I struggled at first with this book because it jumped about back and forth through time and didn't explain itself fully so often I had noticed I was frowning whilst reading. At around 37% though that changed as the pieces started to take form into what was a most enjoyable read I must say. It had me laughing and hurting along with the characters and left a major storyline for a sequel. The characters are relatable but with deeper tragedy than normal people have and also doesn't explain certain threads of the story which you wonder about. This is enough to attract you to book two. I have it on my wishlist just now. I have read plenty other vampire stories and this is definitely in my top 20.

Review: A Shade of Vampire - Bella Forrest

Reviewer: Valerie Rating: 4 out of 5 Fairies Being new to the genre of young adult paranormal (vampire) romance, I have to say I was a bit skeptical going into Bella Forrest’s A Shade of Vampire. However, I became taken in by the characters, and between the many undercurrents that were running throughout the story. Derek and Lucas, Ben and Sophia and then of course there was Vivienne. I thoroughly hope that these story lines get flushed out a bit more as the story continues, as well as the main story line of Derek and Sophia. When we first meet Sophia, she is about to be thrust into a world she didn’t know existed, while already questioning herself and her purpose. She didn’t know what to do, but somehow, she was able to find her strength. At the end of the story, she is on the way to finding out who she can be. Derek, on the other hand, is struggling with who he thinks he needs to be, rather than finding out what he can truly be. His story line is waiting to be flushed more...

Review: Unleash - Felicity Heaton

Reviewer: Bex Rating 5 out of 5 Fairies Oh my! The only explanation for Felicity Heaton's ability to be able to persistently produce amazing books in her V.E.T series, ones that are astoundingly refreshing and unique is her impressive craftsmanship. Felicity Heaton has produced a full length novel of pretty epic proportions, following the much loved and painfully troubled Snow. For followers of the series, I'm sure we can appreciate the magnitude of Unleash. Snow has managed to capture our hearts throughout the series. Not only in Unleash do we get up close and personal with him, but it's also the series finale. Once again, Felicity Heaton delivers the ultimate story, a story that is worthy of Snow and has such an emotional depth that it was impossible to not become completely immersed in his story. The backstory created was moving and disturbing. I wept throughout. Yep, I'm a suck, but I was prepared; I was expecting it! But with the deeply emotive pain t...

Blog Tour Review & Giveaway: Arcadia Falls by Jennifer Malone Wright

Reviewer: Bex Rating: 4 out of 5 Fairies Love & War is an exciting read that allows fans (and new readers) to follow vampire hunter, Chloe's next journey. The main character Chloe, who I had previously established as being a favourite YA heroine of mine in The Vampire Hunter's Daughter, continues to develop in skill and maturity in Jennifer Malone Wright's book. The book is well crafted with an interesting plot development and twists that I really did not see coming. There are numerous exciting, heart-pounding moments in Love & War, that successfully entertained me and kept me gripped. It was a thoroughly enjoyable story, one that both new readers and hardy fans will enjoy.

Review: The Vampire Hunter's Daughter: Complete Collection by Jennifer Malone Wright

My rating: 4.5 of 5 stars Reviewer: Bex I'd read VHD part one a while back, but re-read alongside the rest of this whole wonderful collection. The 'parts' simply go from strength to strength and completely work as a whole read. I much preferred it this way. The author, Jennifer Malone Wright, captures Chloe's character beautifully. She's a character that I believed in and had empathy for. Her character development alongside her character's journey is well crafted and finely tuned to create a strong female protagonist.

Review: Within the Shadows by Julieanne Lynch

Reviewer: Bex Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars  Within the shadows, by Julieanne Lynch, is a fresh vampire read. We follow Giselle; a fairly 'normal' 18 year old. The book immediately grabbed my interest and starts off strong by introducing the characters effectively and setting a scene that's easy to visualise. And then we have twists galore. After several chapters, I had to pause. I seriously did not see that coming! This is a good thing as I was totally convinced by the author's writing, and foolishly, I thought I had it all figured out.

Holy Hell Blog Tour Review & Giveaway: The Mark of Abel by Viola Ryan

Reviewer: Bex Rating 4 out of 5 Fairies The Mark of Abel is an intriguing concept for a book and is a thoroughly enjoyable read. The author, Viola Ryan, has successfully created a story filled with humour, tension and romance. The two main protagonists are well polished and are fun to follow. Luke is an easy book throb to crush on, and Janie develops into a strong female lead, despite my doubts at the beginning of the book.

Blog Tour Review: Crimson Flames by Ashley Robertson

Reviewer: Bex Rating: 4.5 of 5 Fairies Crimson Flames ,by Ashley Robertson, is a strong follow up to Crimson Groves. From the onset of the book, we are greeted by fast-paced action, interesting character development and a rush of drama and tension that kept me absorbed.

We're so excited to have one of Bex 'n' Books' favourites on the blog. Be sure to check it out! ARC Review: The Charmed Fates by Christine Wenrick

Tomorrow is the release day of Christine Wenrick's 'The Charmed Fates', the final installment of her amazing trilogy.  We'd like to say a HUGE congratulations to Christine on the amazing success of her fabulous trilogy. Reviewer: Em Rating: 5/5 Wow, oh wow!! This book  didn’t disappoint me one iota. I opened to the first page to be induced and transported back into the world of Caleb, Olivia, Jax and Gemma. I started to read and couldn’t put the book down. I wasn’t surprised as I had had the same experience with the first two books, the storyline wrapped around me and enfolded me thoroughly taking me on the journey.

Review: Skye Morrison Vampire series by J.L. McCoy

Reviewer: Justine Rating: 4.5/5 Fairies Skye Morrison Vampire series, by J.L. McCoy, consists of Blood of the Son (book #1), Sins of the Father ( book #2), and The Original Sin (book #3) and the recently released Legacy of Blood (review out very soon!). This series floored me! I was sucked in (pun intended) from the very beginning with book one and was screaming “OFF WITH HER HEAD” (that would be J.L. McCoy’s head I was looking for) by the end of book 3! Even though they were all decent size books at just under 250 pages each, I gobbled them down in the record time of a day and a half. With all this awesome there is of course a catch. Sadly, Miss McCoy committed a cardinal Justine sin in two of the three books! The ending had no conclusion! I got to the last sentence turned the page..…… and my e-reader smacks me across the face with a blank page!!!!! I was all "Holy Cliffhanger Batman!!” I am giving this series an overall 4.5 fairies! But warn you that you may want to bu...

Blog Tour Review: WitchLove by Emma Mills

Reviewer: Bex Rating: 4/5 WitchLove, by Emma Mills, is a magic fuelled, romance driven, paranormal romance. The book opens pretty dramatically with an effective build up of tension. This immediately sets the pace and tone for the rest of the book. Not only is WitchLove an engaging read, but the way that Emma Mills has successfully crafted book three in her WitchBlood Series is impressive. The author has enabled the reader to continue to bond with the main character Jess, and develop Jess's character in interesting ways. Emma Mills provides a shocking twist that will blow fans of this series away. One that is sure to pull at your heart strings and play havoc with your emotions. It really is that big! It was fun to follow Jess to the different locations across The Pond. Not only was there a lovely level of description that really helped my to visualise Jess's journey, but the array of characters that she meets along the way, are an ecletic bunch. This is a testi...
