Readers are immediately reminded of the traumatic dramas from the end of book one and the fate of the characters. All of this is provided with swiftness and serves as useful reminders to us all. It also immediately built up the expectation that I would soon be breaking out into a sweat by the spookiness that was about to unfold. And unfold it did. Yet again, the author has created an impressive tale that weaves cleverly around the fabulous main character, Brylee. The plot develops at a steady pace and then breaks out into mighty peaks of tension. Yep, the spooky parts! The author's control and manipulation of language and visual descriptions made it impossible not to become completely immersed in the story unravelling. I was with Brylee every step of the way, feeling her frustrations, her anxieties and her turmoil of emotions ...

There is a powerful atmospheric charge throughout the entire novel that effectively keeps the reader gripped and wanting Brylee to succeed in her many endeavours. The narrative is superbly paced with the build-up tension successfully created, so much so, no doubt the reader will be listening out to creaks in their house and searching for a blanket to read under. The mysterious events and blossoming relationships evident in the book all come together satisfactorily, with a few significant twists along the way that will keep the reader second guessing...
