Rating: 5 out of 5 Fairies
The Crimson Key, book two in Christy Sloat's The Visitor's Series, picks up where book one left off. Readers are immediately reminded of the traumatic dramas from the end of book one and the fate of the characters. All of this is provided with swiftness and serves as useful reminders to us all. It also immediately built up the expectation that I would soon be breaking out into a sweat by the spookiness that was about to unfold.
And unfold it did.
Yet again, the author has created an impressive tale that weaves cleverly around the fabulous main character, Brylee. The plot develops at a steady pace and then breaks out into mighty peaks of tension. Yep, the spooky parts! The author's control and manipulation of language and visual descriptions made it impossible not to become completely immersed in the story unravelling. I was with Brylee every step of the way, feeling her frustrations, her anxieties and her turmoil of emotions and deep seated sense of responsibility.
For a young character, Brylee is so very easy to identify with, to follow. The author managed to develop her character in new and interesting ways and continued to allow her to grow and push forward. It's so important in a series that we see a character's growth, especially when the protagonist is a teenager.
Christy Sloat has successfully produced a strong book two. One that easy is in par with book one. If you are looking for a series filled with tension, drama, romance and a shed load of goosebumps, then The Visitor's Series is definitely a buy-don't-think read.

The truth can be deadly.
Brylee Branson’s best friend and boyfriend have fallen victim to a horrible curse that haunts her home. With the witches who cast it dead she has no choice but to rely on the ghosts inside the Brown house to help her find a cure. But time is not on her side, because Lynley's illness is spreading rapidly.
Confused and scared, seventeen-year-old Brylee must confront a new ghost in the house she has never spoken to before. This spirit is not a Brown relative and makes no promises to help them … unless she can re-unite her with a loved one.
The fate of those she loves now rests on her. Can Brylee put the pieces of this puzzle together in time to save them? Or will the Brown house claim another victim?
The Visitor’s Series continues to scare and entice its readers with this gripping second book.
