Poised, Samantha watched him for a moment. “There is a young lady in Whiskey River who is willing to pay for a mail-order husband.”
“Great.” Wyatt then asked, his brown eyes flaring, “So, why does she want a mail-order husband?”
She paused for a moment, taking him in. Wyatt felt as if she were studying him. “She’s being harassed by the owner of the saloon in town.”
Wyatt’s eyebrows pulled together in concern. “Why can’t someone arrest the man?”
Madame Chase shook her head. “I don’t think he’s done anything else that they could arrest him for, besides harassing her.”
Wyatt sat back. “So, she wants a husband to keep the guy at bay.”
She shrugged. “It’s probably not the wisest solution, but she feels it’s her only one.”
Wyatt stood up. “She needs someone to protect her.” He shook his head and headed toward the door. “I’m sorry, but I’m not your man.”
He was almost to the door.
“Wait!” Madame Chase yelled.
Wyatt froze, but didn’t turn to face her.
“Wouldn’t you like to see her picture?”
Wyatt moved his jacket to the side and placed his hand on his hip. “I’m not going to change my mind.” But a part of him already wanted to protect her, no matter what she looked like, and he wasn’t sure why. He shook his head as he forced a smile and walked back into the room. “You’re good.”
She shrugged. “It’s my business.” She picked up a photograph that Wyatt hadn’t noticed and handed it to him.
A part of him didn’t want to look, not wanting to be that superficial. But curiosity got the better of him. When he looked down at the black-and-white picture, bright eyes looked up at him and her hair was light. She was beautiful. He could imagine what she looked like in real life.
“Well, what do you think?” Madame Chase asked as a smile curled one side of her lips.
Wyatt lifted his eyes from the picture. “When do I leave?” He had never really thought of marrying anyone before, but he had said that he wanted a different life. An adventure. What better adventure than marriage?
Madame Chase handed him a file. “You will leave Saturday. It will take three days for you to arrive in Laramie, Wyoming. A man by the name of Colton Hill will meet you there and will take you to Whiskey River. Madison will pay for your expenses.”
“No,” Wyatt said as he looked at the file. “I am a gentleman, if nothing else, and I will not let a lady pay my expenses. I’ll even pay your fee, as well.”
Madame Chase smiled as she leaned her head to the side. “So be it. You have until Saturday to get your affairs in order. Will you be ready?”
He nodded once. “Yes. That will be fine. I’ll be ready.”
Madame Chase smiled. “I must ask you some questions.”
Wyatt sat back, waiting.
“For starters, what is your name?”
Wyatt smiled as he realized that he hadn’t properly introduced himself. “Forgive me. My name is Wyatt Nash.”
“And your profession?”
Wyatt sighed as he sat back. “I’m a gambler.”
Madame Chase nodded. “Sir, if I may be so bold, why are you doing this?”
Wyatt looked in her eyes. “As you heard in the saloon, I’m tired of this life; of people thinking I cheated them.”
Madame Chase’s eyes narrowed. “And do you? Cheat?”

He scoffed as his eyes narrowed. “I never cheated a man before in my life. I’m just the luckiest son of a bitch I know. Pardon the language.”

Reviewer: Em Rating: 5/5 Wow, oh wow!! This book  didn’t disappoint me one iota. I opened to the first page to be induced and transported back into the world of Caleb, Olivia, Jax and Gemma. I started to read and couldn’t put the book down. I wasn’t surprised as I had had the same experience with the first two books, the storyline wrapped around me and enfolded me thoroughly taking me on the journey.
