The most difficult part of writing The Virginity Mission
Before The
Virginity Mission, I was writing stories that I felt lacked authenticity.
I'm not good at inventing settings, so I decided to write what I know (this
advice is given to learners a lot). The
Virginity Mission is based on a trip I did to the Daintree Rainforest in
North Queensland, Australia, when I was at university. It was the most
incredible experience and I wanted to share.
But my reality was a boring story. I had
to fabricate a story in amongst the setting I knew. I'm not one who plans the
story before I start writing, I write and write, whatever my head tells me
(which could be the characters speaking, or my subconscious, or some psychotic
episode, who knows!) and when I finish, I re-read to see what I have and try to
shape a story. My editing process is long and frustrating – writing is loads of
fun and fast!
I set myself a pretty difficult task
pulling this story together. In hindsight, it would have been a lot easier if
Mac (the heroine, whose real name is Willow) fell in love with someone in her
group but my brain doesn't do easy. Mac fell in lust with one of the few unavailable
men. Incredibly, he felt something for her too and so began their strange
friendship.
It's crazy to write an erotic story when
the hero and heroine are apart for much of the time, but I didn’t want to avoid
the challenges of real life and you don't often fall in love/lust at convenient
times - or is that just me?
The
Virginity Mission isn't perfect but I’m proud of it. It's
the best story I could write at the time. Some people like it, some people
don't. Some want more adventure, some want less. But for me, it's a tribute to
my Daintree trip and it's a start on my writing adventure. I love Mac and Jason.
I like their easy-going and honest friendship. Another thing I love is the
cover. The Escape cover artists made Jason one heck of a hot hero!
I hope if you read The Virginity Mission, you’ll enjoy it.
