Rating: 3 out of 5 Fairies
Piercing through the Darkness follows the lives of Kandi and Jonathan, as they both embark on a journey of pain, letting go and dealing with a past that haunt them. This YA psychological thriller, is filled with well-developed tension and characters that are easy to understand and follow. The plot structure moves at a pace with significant highs and lows, allowing the reader to pause for breath before the action builds up again.
There were many moments that took me by surprise and had me doing a double take. It was this aspect of the book that I especially liked. At times, I felt that the narrative was a little too simplistic, and I would have liked the characters to have extra depth, especially considering the emotions evident in this book. As an adult reader, a more sophisticated style and language choices would have helped my to become better absorbed. No doubt, however, younger readers will find the style more than appropriate, and will readily get caught up in the author's writing.
Piercing through the Darkness is an enjoyable read, suitable for younger readers looking for a short read that will heighten their pulse rates.
It’s on the edge of her memory like a word on the tip of her tongue, but Kandi can’t remember what it is to save her life.
Despite being a cop, Jimmy can’t protect Kandi from the one thing that haunts her. She’s in danger and doesn’t even know it. After it happened, her brain repressed her memories of the accident, and now, she’s taking a Biology class under a man who wants to see her dead. The memories have started coming back, and it feels like she’s miles away from him. How can he protect her when she doesn’t even know she needs protecting?
Can these characters pierce their way through the darkness?
