It’s always a bit scary writing about one’s self. Seriously!
Give be a book to read and review any day. But the gorgeous Lauren Reidy from A Little Bit of R&R can be one persuasive
lady. So welcome to my review post for Beyond the Books Giveaway Hop!
Yes, I’m sure by now that you all know that apart from my
slightly insane family, reading and reviewing is such a huge part of my life;
it excites, relaxes and inspires me. Particularly when helping amazing authors
to share the news of their wonderful pieces of writing, that’s what I get a
real buzz out of! But there is something else that I truly love to do. And that
my lovelies is surfing. I bet you never saw that one coming did you!
I know now you’re confused. I thought you were Australian I hear you cry. Nope, not yet anyway!
I migrated to the good old Land of Oz in 2010 and there’s been no looking back
since. But I digress! (I do that a lot) In the lovely county of Devon is where
I discovered my love of surfing, but not until my mid 20s after buying my hunky
husband a surfboard for his birthday (yep, I fell in love with Keanu in Point
Break and wanted my hubby to look as hot). From there we would often frequent the
beautiful beaches of Westward Ho! (The only town with an exclamation mark in it
- cool huh!). Not only is this a gorgeous beach, but it has some pretty amazing
surf.
Surfing is an adrenaline like no other. The calmness before
a big set comes in, the build up of anticipation, not knowing whether or not
this would be a beautiful ride, or (most likely) a battering that will have me
twirling ungracefully in the waves. Oh the sweet release!
My hubby and I have made a promise to one another that we’ll
survive just two more years in no man’s land before we race towards the coast
once again. We can constantly hear the surf calling to us.
Westward Ho! |
When I was 18, my parents attempted to run and hide from me
when I was at University in Staffordshire, UK. Of course they were
unsuccessful; I can be a bit of a blood hound when I want to be. I tracked them
down to Devon, UK. For those of you who don’t know this is in the South-West of
England, a part of the country which I think is the most beautiful. We have the
luxury of sea and country on our doorstep.
Me and my gorgeous family |
Me and my hubby many moons ago! |
Regardless of catching a wave or being pummelled (which to
be honest it mainly was, I said I loved it, not that I was any good at it! lol!)
the beauty and freedom of the sea is an incredible feeling, most certainly on
par with an excellent read. A shock I know.
At the moment I live in the Queensland Outback, a far cry
from the glorious beaches of East Coast Australia, but I have managed to get
quite a bit of surfing in whilst living in Oz. I love the Gold Coast and the
beautiful Byron Bay can be a dream to surf. We’re heading to the Sunshine Coast
for a family holiday in the New Year. Both our sexy long boards will be stowed
safely on our truck and once again, I’ll be choking on sea water and loving
every minute of it.
Having fun at Westward Ho! |
Who’d have ‘thunk’ it! Almost 600 words and I thought talking
about myself was going to be hard. Yes, I know I do have an excellent subject ~
mwah!
