Review & Giveaway: Black Lace (Paths of the Spirit #1) by J.V.K

Goodreads Synopsis
Vivian Donovan Rei eighteen year old girl whose biggest problem is which gun to take when she goes out at night. Particularly small and apathetic, heir to a wealthy family, she was promised in marriage to one of the last pureblooded vampire. As such, she must comply with the laws of the Council, headed by her future father-in-law. Rei keeps her secrets fiercely and not allow anyone near her easily. She is the "watchdog" of the order of Raven, town utopia for creatures who broke off from the known evolution and seek asylum. In the Raven she is the law, judge, jury and executioner. "Black Lace" is a breathtaking story about the "free" choice, love and ways of life. Exciting and unusual story of love and betrayal that will leave you captivated and with never-ending need for more
Black Lace is a truly original read. I have yet to read another 'vampire' book quite like it. The originality lies directly in the uniqueness of the plot and and storyline. It weaves and twists so quickly, and generally has a very fast pace, so much so that I was out of breath keeping up. The plot development was constantly moving and pushing forward, taking the characters to several intriguing places.

The protagonist, Vivian, is a complex character. She is surrounded by deeply seated issues and for such a powerful character is plagued by insecurities. She is a fascinating character to follow. Her relationship with the lovely Michael is somewhat similar to a whirlwind: one moment they are tender, the next they are at each others' throats. This most definitely kept me engrossed in their relationship, yet it also confused me at times.

The ending was certainly dramatic and effectively sets us up wanting more. And after reading the taster of book two, Red Moon, I'm very excited about reading the next installment in this series.

Reviews: Confessions of a Paris Party Girl - Vicki Lesage

Confessions of a Paris Party Girl by Vicki Lesage Lynn's rating: 4 of 5 stars Vicky needed a change from her mid-western life. Well what's a girl to do except move to Paris. After back-packing through Europe during collage breaks she wanted to try living there. Where better way to continue with her love affair with wine. This book was smart, sassy and fun. Trying to live in a new city with basic French, having to make all new friends and still have the time of your life. Everything from finding her apartment the first time to placing adds for meeting friends, Vicki turns it into an adventure. you feel as if you are on the journey with her. She takes you to places most people will never get to see and gives you such a vivid accounting of them you can picture them in your mind. Some of the situations she finds herself in has your giggling out loud. it is such a wonderful accounting of everyday Paris life. The book was one of the better chick lit books I have read in a long...
