Review: Becoming by RM Gilmore

Country girl paranormal novella trilogy from author R.M. Gilmore (author of the Dylan Hart Odyssey of The Occult series). A new twist on an old classic. Havana, Arkansas it's the picture of mystics and magic, but Lynnie Russell learns quickly you can't judge a book by it's cover.
I’m really starting to love novellas. Seriously, it’s almost instant satisfaction. It doesn’t take too long to reach the end and have that lovely glowy feeling you get from completing a really good read. And it’s thanks to such wonderful authors, like RM Gilmore, who have mastered the art of writing a short story (107 pages) in such a manner that makes it feel as though you’ve read a novel. 

What you will find when you pick up Becoming, which I strongly recommend that you do, is a story that is original, superbly crafted and developed, in addition to creating the potential for a phenomenal paranormal series. This book is truly original. No vamps, no weres, rather something much more unusual, that it makes the story so very refreshing.

The pace was incredibly fast. A real page turner! Yes, I know that sounds ridiculously cliché, and when I read that in reviews, my more cynical side mutters in my ear – yeah right, were you struggling to write anything original – but honestly, Becoming was so very easy, fast, and kept me completely absorbed. Please don’t misunderstand, the description ‘easy’ is intended to be wholly positive.

I really enjoyed Lynnie’s character, and could easily hear her voice in my head with her superb twang. She’s a believable character, with very interesting, and understandable reactions to the situations that she finds herself in. What you will also find in Becoming is RM Gilmore’s lovely humour which if you have read The Scene, you will be relieved to discover is evident in this book. An excellent novella. 5 stars!

Review: Embraced (Enduring Kiss #4) - C.E. Black

It is an easy read but don’t start reading it too late at night or you will probably end up with a book hangover. It is very difficult to put down. Sean is a lost wolf. Tour Review, Post & Giveaway: Shudder - Samantha Durante

Reviewer: Bex Rating: 4 out of 5 Fairies Shudder is a strong follow on from Stitch, a book that I thoroughly enjoyed. What I particular enjoyed and thought that the author managed extremely well was the multiple viewpoints that she built in with the narrative. Not only did this allow us extra insight into the characters, but also the varying points of views added lovely depth to the novel. Samantha Durante's craft has improved and developed since book one. On the whole, her writing is tighter and flows that much easier. There were still a few moments within the dialogue that I felt was a little awkward, yet others could easily disagree. I’m just a stickler and very particular with dialogue. Yet again, there’s a fabulous twist that Durante mastered with skill and ease.
