Bex's Top 10 of 2012

So this was ridiculously hard. There were so many wonderful books that I've had the opportunity to read in 2012. I trawled my blog and my Amazon and Goodread reviews to try to collate my Top 10 list. It's changed shape so many times, but I've finally (I think) made up my mind! So here it is, my Top 10 reads of 2012. These 10 have made it to the list for so many reasons, but mainly because I thoroughly enjoyed them and gushed over them in reviews, to friends and strangers on the bus! They are that awesome! These books were not necessarily published or released in 2012, but this is the year that I read them. It was impossible to put them in any order, so no 1-10 list. I loved them all equally! Yes, yes, a cop out I know, but I'm stubborn, so that's just the way it is.

Kay's Top 10 Reads of 2012

OK,  this was hard but here goes, and in no particular order - sorry I just couldn't do it lol! All of these amazing books are just a few of the books I have read in 2012. Limited to 10, these have been my favourites.

Review: Lexi Baby by Lynda LeeAnne

This book was hard for me review. I related to Lexi on a personal level, beyond any book before. At times, it was almost parallel to my life when I was 18 and 19 years old. I wish I could explain and clarify more, but the synopsis does not even scratch the surface of Lexi’s story. I will say that in many ways I LOVED THIS BOOK! I found myself crying in both sadness and laughter. I am also officially on the hunt for a best friend of the same caliber of Trish. 4 fairies from me and I can’t wait for Trish and Tony’s story. It's titled Trish, Just Trish and Lynda is planning on a February release!   Goodreads Synopsis Alexis Sky Martine thinks of herself as the average girl-next-door that does what she has to do to get by, have fun and enjoy life. She is madly in love with her sexy, drop-your-panties-at-first-sight, hottie boyfriend who is equally in love with her; more like downright obsessed. He treats her like she is his heart; like he needs her to exist; li...

Review: Mistfall by Olivia Martinez

Reviewer: Bex Rating: 5 out of 5 Fairies do love it when I pick up a book with little knowledge and therefore few expectations other than I hope I enjoy it, only to discover that I'm bowled over the characters and plot. I immediately enjoyed Mags' character, the protagonist. She is somewhat similar to other heroines of urban fantasy; feisty, ballsy, attractive and overall pretty bad-ass. I have no issues with this at all. That's one of the main reasons why I love female leads in this genre. What Olivia Martinez offers however, through the creation of her character, is a new type of supe. And a pretty cool one at that! I foolishly thought that I had the plot figured out, that everything would pan out in a pretty straight forward way. But boy oh boy was I wrong. Olivia Martinez, the clever and crafty author that she is, seriously knocked me for six with her twists and turns. Be prepared there are several. I laughed out loud on several occasions, and was pretty dar...

Review: The Dragon Dimension (Caught in the Dragon Cove) by Ressa Empbra

Okay so first off, my very first thought regarding this book was near on panic. The very first thing that happens is on December 25th, the couple have just suffered a still birth of their baby girl. Now what makes this so painful is that just a year ago on that very day I lost twin boys. I panicked contacted Bex from Bex n’ Books and she said if I don’t want to continue on then to stop there. But I decided to continue on. I have very mixed feelings about this book. The story doesn’t stay with that couple, but instead jumps years ahead to where they have a baby girl basically delivered to them. And THAT is who the entire story is about. I think the author could have just skipped over the entire beginning since it really had no bearing on the later story. That being said, if you want a book with a real main character, well here it is, Iax (eye axe) is a down to earth woman, modern, curses like a sailor * I can so relate*, and can stand on her own two feet. Then we have the m...

Christmas Review: One Strange Christmas by Nicola Palmer

One Strange Christmas is a lovely refreshing Children's Christmas story. The plot is both creative and original, and the range of characters are easy to follow and like. Whilst there are no accompanying images, this is a book recommended for 7+ and us grown-ups too, the book is so beautifully visual. I ran this short story like a film in my head and heard the characters voices so very clearly. A true testament to the author's skill. Nicola Palmer has crafted her book to an impressive and creative standard. A splendid Christmas story filled with festive joy and spirit, that both children and adults will love. 5 Christmas fairies.  Goodreads Synopsis Jake had been expecting a very  ordinary Christmas - until he opened the curtains and saw it. All he had wished for was some snow and a bit of excitement! Christmas Day brings chaos: news reporters, meetings with peculiar characters, a spectacular surprise at the bottom of the garden; not to mention Jake's ...

Interview, Review & Giveaway: Love, Lies and a Bloke by April Fifer & Danielle Hylton

Love, Lies and a Bloke by April Fifer & Danielle Hylton moved fast, which is common with short stories, yet this book held me captivated throughout. The characters are so very likable  I would have to say my favorite character wasn't even a main player. It would have to be the quirky, lovable and loyal best friend, Zoe. As for our main girl, Katherine, some scenes were so mouth-watering, I had to stop and check for drool! Once I calmed down, I was left with a story and plot that is so very true to life, and had a "yap, I know watcha mean" feel. .......... Well done ladies!   Goodreads Synopsis Katherine Thomas is a lackluster kind of girl who refuses to bend the rules. Until one day she loses her job and is forced to reevaluate her life. One trip to Australia changes her world forever. Katherine leaves her hometown of Fleming to find herself, however she ends up finding love, lies and a bloke. Purchase Links Amazon US ~ Amaz...
