This is a romance about Mia Page and the journey from High School to her early thirties. It starts off with a teenage Mia who has a humongous crush on Noah Matheson and goes from there. However, the story doesn’t just plod through her life, from chapter to chapter. It skips from teenage Mia, to housewife with two kids Mia married to gorgeous Declan Murphy and living with the pressures of married life and that undiscovered territory of what could have been.
Throughout the book, I was hot and cold. I found it to be too long and wasn’t always appreciative of the flashbacks though they were necessary for the story to unfold and for the reader to understand where the characters were coming from. My gripe is they could have been shorter and sharper.
However, though I had these reservations, I was compelled to keep reading. It was an easy read as it was well written with some powerful scenes (including those under the bed covers!) that spiked and maintained my interest as the story unfolded. The characters and events were relatable. The temptations and chances to explore a life they never had were real. This realism was refreshing. I grappled with it but in the end it grabbed me and drew me in. Overall a good read.
