- Tell us a bit about yourself.
Briefly, I am a 22 year old Australian from Melbourne. I have never travelled to Europe but I would love to one day. I have a strange an obsession with cats, dragons and all things Japanese. I love to collect unique tea sets and I’m into playing video games. My favourite genre is Paranormal Romance, but at the moment I really want to read some good Steampunk and Dystopian.
- What inspired you to write your
first book?
My Demonic
Ghost was inspired by the French Philosopher Descartes and his theory of
consciousness. He had asked many questions about the possibility of the mind
and soul, but the one question he asked that got my mind reeling was ‘is there
a possibility that we are being tricked by a demon god?’ It also allowed me to
explore a story where so called demons aren’t what we expected.
- How did you come up with the
title My Demonic Ghost?
You might be interested to know that originally it was going to be called My Demonic God as it was about the idea of a corrupted god controlling us. But as I ventured further into the story and figured out that my focus was not on a god but on a ghost, I decided to change the word God to Ghost instead. The Demonic part in the title was included because of the fact the spirits and demons of this book are labelled as evil, that they are the offspring of sin and impurity. I used the word ‘My’ for the Host’s part in the story, that she feels a sense of possession to the demon spirit that clings to her.
- What was one of the most
surprising things you learned in creating your books?
How little control an author can have of their characters. I love to have guidelines to help me stay on course, but once a character steps into the scene anything could happen. So many times I try to tell them something, try to push them in a certain direction but if they don’t want to it’s not going to happen. It can be very, very frustrating at times. But, when you write a scene and the characters flow naturally it’s worth the trouble.
- How long does it take you to
write a book?
Oh gees, in comparison to many writers out there I am a lazy writer. I haven’t written many completed books, I tend to start them and try and run them along a path but a lot of them lose momentum and end up half completed and sitting in my ‘let’s-pretend-we’ll-finish-this-later’ folder on my laptop. For My Demonic Ghost –Banished Spirits it took me six years of on/off writing to complete as I was about to go through VCE. I just didn’t have the time. The second one didn’t take me as long, roughly 6 months whereas a different story it took me a year and a half. It’s all about inspiration, if I’m not inspired I am not going to write anything good or worthy. Even if I force myself to sit at my laptop I’m just going to delete everything I write the next time I read through it.
- Can you share a little of your
current work with us?
Gladly, I’m
currently writing the third and final instalment of My Demonic Ghost- Creators.
I feel really great about this book as it brings back our beloved Rachael and
Lock. They are older which brings forth new obstacles. The second Book
(Reapers) allows you to explore the lives of the mysterious reaping spirits, so
you actually go into the underworld and become a Reaper. I am also writing two
other stories, one which is a fantasy focusing on the Chinese Zodiac and the
other is a Cyborg romance.
- What is your work schedule like
when you're writing?
Unpredictable. I wish I could just mark a time on the calendar and say ‘yep, here I will write two chapters’. Unfortunately, I don’t work that way. I have to write from a certain feeling, and if I am not feeling it properly my ‘bluffing’ version doesn’t do the story justice. 9 out of 10 times it goes straight to the chopping block.
- Do you have any writing
rituals?
Music is
huge for me; it gets my creativity jumping till I am absolutely consumed by
this other adventure. If you find me completely zoned out looking as if I just
had the life sucked out of me, I’m probably just fantasying about this other world.
Please don’t wake me.
- What book are you reading now?
I’m
juggling two at the moment with a third one on its way. I’m reading Emma Page’s
novel Blind sighted Wanderer which I am loving and I am reading my Christmas
present City of Bones.
- Do you have anything specific
that you want to say to your readers?
Easy, you
guys are amazing. I am so happy to have written My Demonic Ghost as it has
allowed me to meet you.

Questions:
- What’s in your fridge right
now?
A half-eaten
box of Lint chocolate. I’m pacing myself. There’s also about a weeks’ worth of
frozen food as my parents have gone away for a while.
- What song do you sing at the
top of your voice every time you hear it?
Anything by
Linkin Park. Mostly Numb and In the End- I love their older songs.
- Other than writing, what
special or unusual talent(s) do you have?
Not singing that’s for sure. I can touch my tongue to my nose, but I hardly call that a talent, more like an abnormality.
