Review: Cicada - Belle Whittington

Reviewer: John Rating: 5 out of 5 Fairies On the surface of it, I am the wrong demographic for this book; an Englishman approaching retirement age. I don’t know much about small town America or graduation, or how the world looks to a modern teenage girl. I don’t want to spoil the plot by revealing too much, but the essence is that aliens are amongst us & have been for some time. Blair, the narrator & her friends become involved in the rescue & saving of one of the aliens, only to find there is more than one kind and they’re not all friendly. Blair is troubled by the loss of her father & brother & struggling with coming to terms with the imminent loss of her remaining brother & slightly older friends to college, as well as with the fight to save the alien. There are discoveries made about her family history as well as about herself & her friends. That’s all I’m going to tell you regarding the plot. I said in the introduction, I didn’t think th

Review: Night Aberrations - JD Nelson

Reviewer: Bex Rating: 4 out of 5 Fairies Night Aberrations offers an entertaining and gripping read. J.D. Nelson creates an array of characters who are armed with a variety of personality traits and strengths. She develops her characters, especially Emelie, the main character in a fascinating way, taking the reader along an intriguing concept for a story. Overall, Night Aberrations, was a thoroughly enjoyable read. It kept me engaged, remained interesting, was fun and sexy while also having elements of darkness to it. A very fascinating paranormal read. At times the story felt a little rushed. The characters developed very fast, and I was, on occasion, left wondering if I'd skipped ahead a few pages. While it had this level of speed, this did not prevent me from enjoying the characters of intriguing plot development. Night Aberrations is definitely a series I will be following. Disclosure: This book was provided by the author in exchange for an HONEST and not necess

Review: Roping Love - Tamara Hoffa

Reviewer: Danny Rating: 4.5 out of 5 Fairies 'Roping Love' started a bit slow for me initially. To be honest, cowboys are not one of my favorite topics, maybe it's because where I live, they're not that big of a 'thing'. I think that's the reason why I had the trouble with getting into the story in the first place. The first chapter was a bit tardy; it didn’t really get me into the story, but once it was over, oh boy, I was left in tears and was left feeling satisfied and fulfilled! I have a soft spot for romance. This story proved to be a golden gem. I am so happy I had the a chance to read and review it. “Roping Love” is all about second chances. I really feel for Chance, the main character, and his hard life, but I'm also kind of angry with him. Given his choices, I really sympathize with him and see why he had to do what he did. I love how realistic his character is; he's really a noble man. To be honest, I'm not sure that I would h

Review: Unleash - Felicity Heaton

Reviewer: Bex Rating 5 out of 5 Fairies Oh my! The only explanation for Felicity Heaton's ability to be able to persistently produce amazing books in her V.E.T series, ones that are astoundingly refreshing and unique is her impressive craftsmanship. Felicity Heaton has produced a full length novel of pretty epic proportions, following the much loved and painfully troubled Snow. For followers of the series, I'm sure we can appreciate the magnitude of Unleash. Snow has managed to capture our hearts throughout the series. Not only in Unleash do we get up close and personal with him, but it's also the series finale. Once again, Felicity Heaton delivers the ultimate story, a story that is worthy of Snow and has such an emotional depth that it was impossible to not become completely immersed in his story. The backstory created was moving and disturbing. I wept throughout. Yep, I'm a suck, but I was prepared; I was expecting it! But with the deeply emotive pain t

Review: Heart Raider - Sophia Knightly

Reviewer: Justine Rating: 4 out of 5 Fairies I am coming to learn that I can depend on Sophia to give me the Classic Contemporary Romances I love! Once again, she proves this true in Heart Raider. Sophia Knightly seems to have an endless imagination that supplies us with storylines that both capture our hearts with true love and teaches us of deceit, heartbreak and forgiveness. As for the Ending, well it was my favorite kind; A Happy Ending! (Boy you all have filthy minds!) Ms Knightly has a way writing HEAs that leave you sighing with happiness for her characters. I am giving Sophia Knightly's first installment of the Heartthrob Series a 4 fluttering fairies!

Review: Friend-Zoned - Belle Aurora

Reviewer: Bex Rating: 5 out of 5 Fairies Friend-Zoned is a wonderful contemporary romance that had me laughing out loud until I peed a little, snorting into my coffee a few times, sobbing on numerous occasions - creating a wonderful fugly mess - and finally left me needing a cold shower! Yes - hot hot hot! I know right! I'm exhausted yet I also feel all warm and snuggling just thinking about Friend -Zoned. The author, Belle Aurora, has created a heartfelt read that has been beautifully crafted and developed. She pushes her characters into realms that were not always easy to follow - hence the fugly mess at times - yet she always managed to bring her characters back to a point where I felt attuned to their development and journey. Her two main characters, Nik and Tina, were so easy to follow and love. Written in first person, the author manages to capture their unique personalities and histories, while ensuring they are human and therefore relatable. The plot develo

Review: Me Go Mango - Mickey J. Corrigan

Reviewer: Vicki Rating: 4 out of 5 Fairies Four longtime friends who haven’t seen each other in two decades, come together in Vermont. They are all middle aged now and still drink, swear and go after HOT guys just like they used to in their younger days. One drinks like a fish out of water while another drinks and at least realizes she needs to slow down or stop. One of them cries at the drop of a hat while the other is too stuck up dealing with the others. It is rather comical in parts and sad in others. Erin takes the plunge and hooks up with a cook at a restaurant and what a cook he is! I want to live in Lime Key. Seriously, it sounds like Heaven. I would recommend this book. It’s a little slow at first but once it takes off, you can’t stop reading.

Review: A Night of Wickedness (The Wicked Ways #1) - JD Nelson

Reviewer: Justine Rating: 4.5 out of 5 Fairies A Night of Wickedness by JD Nelson Wow, I am ALMOST at a loss to describe this book to you, but alas I found my words in the end. I was expecting a short, HOT, steamy paranormal read, what I got was SOOOO much more! With love, deceit, betrayal and heartbreak, this book was NOT the average Erotica read. JD made A Night of Wickedness almost feel like a modern day Wuthering Heights! Giving us characters that are continually hurting one another over misunderstandings, revenge or just to ease their own pain and suffering. The ending was both amazing and broke my heart. With book two, ‘Wolves Will Be Wolves’ out August 2013, I am on Fang and claws in anticipation! 4.5 fanged fairies!!!

Review: Lest the Dew Rust Them - Michael Drakich

Reviewer: John Rating: 3 out of 5 Fairies The book has good & bad points; the concept behind it is quite good, especially in the light of the recent horrific event in the UK, with terrorists out to scare middle America with small scale atrocities, a series of beheadings. The group is not too well explained & appears to be a random mix of members, with no real political aim and a couple of them in it just for the kicks! The book contains a number of historical references which actually take up a quarter of the book & while interesting, I feel the space would have been better used to flesh out the characters; some of which are fairly well drawn, but others are very two dimensional, more stereotypes than anything else. If you like the style of a book written by Robert Ludlum or Eric Van Lustbader, then this may well be for you, I would just have liked the book to be longer to allow more depth to be added to the plot & allow the final scenes to feel less rushed.

Tour Stop & Giveaway: The Secret Side of Empty - Maria Andreu

The Secret Side of Empty , in bookstores Spring, 2014, is the story of a high school senior, M.T., who is hiding a big secret: she’s “illegal.” Her parents brought her over as a baby and overstayed their visas. She’s American in every way except one: on paper. No one knows, not even her best friend Chelsea and her sweet boyfriend, Nate. With senior year coming to a close, she has to figure out how she’ll build a life with no social security number, no college, no driver’s license and no way to get a real job. But first she’s got to make it through senior year. Five things about my book that might surprise you: 1. There is a car chase. It doesn’t involve any cops, but it’s how the main character meets her boyfriend. It’s kind of fun. And loosely based on how I met my high school boyfriend. 2. The New York Daily News has already done a story on it! It’s pretty exciting to see the book getting such good buzz.  3. It’s based on real life. I was an undocumented immigrant as a

Author Interview & Giveaway: Michele G Miller

Tell us a bit about yourself.  Hi! *waves* I'm Michele and I'm a writer.  I'm also a mother of 3, a wife to a totally amazing man, a dog owner, sports fanatic, book devourer, chocoholic and Mexican food eater.  I am beyond blessed to get to spend my days playing around on my PC and occasionally creating stories for you to read.  Mostly I'm messing around with my peeps on FB & Twitter and listening to Spotify ;) What inspired you to write your first book? I have been writing since the 7th grade on and off.  It was a coping skill when my family moved from Maine to Alabama (yea, talk about culture shock!)             After getting all 3 kids into school last year I started debating on what to do now.  I knew I wanted to stay at home for my kids but I also debated on going back to school to get a degree in something I loved 'just in case' I ever needed it.  I should tell you that I married my high school sweetheart at 19 and work

Review: Price of Justice - Alan Brenham

Reviewer: Charlee Rating: 5 out of 5 Fairies I honestly couldn't wait to start reading Price of Justice. I love a good crime thriller; however, I often find myself disappointed by boring storylines and nothing to grip me. BUT, I have to say, this book was awesome! It's well written with plenty going on to keep my brain busy.  Following the story of a cop, Jason Scarsdale is trying to adjust to life following the death of his beloved wife, while struggling to be everything his little girl needs him to be, and still catch the sickos on the street, of which there are many! Review: Limerence - Claire C Riley

Reviewer: Stacey Rating: 5 out of 5 Fairies Claire Riley doesn't leave a single detail out in Limerence! Even if your preference isn't vampire novels, this book appeals to romance and fantasy readers too! By moving the narrative voice between Mia and Breckt (and occasionally some other characters too), Riley creates a compelling cast and a dark, twisted narrative. We're forced to care for Mia because of what we know (and what she doesn't). We watch as our heroine, Mia, who is desperately in love with her fiancé Oliver, fights the compulsion and attraction to one of the most beautiful and seductive men she has ever met. Mia's struggles with a pull to a man that she can't explain. And Breckt...well, I'm glad that I didn't like something about him (just couldn't put my finger on it).  Riley's vampire is more like the devil himself. He's into the physical and mental torture and uncomfortable sexuality that most people forget about whe

Review: The Spirit Keepers - J.S Winn

Reviewer: Charlee Rating: 4 out of 5 Fairies The Spirit Keeper is an absolutely fantastic, original story, unlike anything I've ever read. Starting a new life in New Mexico, Sandy finds herself miles away, in more ways than one, from her hometown of Philadelphia. Everything is different, from the local's beliefs to the children she teaches. When one of her students, Dixon, is being bullied, Sandy walks him home, and is before long welcomed into the Edakee family, who see her as their Aunt. As Sandy spends more time with the Edakee's, she discovers that Dixon being bullied is just the tip of the iceberg for this family, who are being terrorised and threatened because the people believe they are witches. Sandy must prove their innocence and find out who is behind these terrible attacks once and for all, before someone is seriously hurt.  This is a story that will pull at your heart strings many, many times, a tale of loyalty and betrayal, and of course, love. 4 we

Tour Review: Blind Dating - Kerry Taylor

Reviewer: Stacey Rating: 4 out of 5 Fairies This is a romantic comedy novella that made me chuckle to myself. Blind Dating is a story about a divorced mum of three, who thinks her life is boring, dull; she even believes her own mum has more fun than she does. After marrying a man who cheated before they said their marriage vows, Kimberley should have known life wasn't going to be all sweet and smelling of roses! After years in a non loving marriage, divorce came with no heartache what so ever. With three kids who think their mum needs more fun in her life and even more so...a man, Kimberley decides to take control of her life, to take the bull by the horns and make her life better. I'm 38 and I kept thinking, poor lass! What would I do in that situation? I started to feel for her and willed her to "get a life" and take that first step to happiness. There were certain parts in this book that I wanted to shout at Kimberley, but luckily for me, her baby sister

Tour Review & Giveaway: The Crimson Key - Christy Sloat

Reviewer: Bex Rating: 5 out of 5 Fairies The Crimson Key, book two in Christy Sloat's The Visitor's Series, picks up where book one left off. Readers are immediately reminded of the traumatic dramas from the end of book one and the fate of the characters. All of this is provided with swiftness and serves as useful reminders to us all. It also immediately built up the expectation that I would soon be breaking out into a sweat by the spookiness that was about to unfold. And unfold it did. Yet again, the author has created an impressive tale that weaves cleverly around the fabulous main character, Brylee. The plot develops at a steady pace and then breaks out into mighty peaks of tension. Yep, the spooky parts! The author's control and manipulation of language and visual descriptions made it impossible not to become completely immersed in the story unravelling. I was with Brylee every step of the way, feeling her frustrations, her anxieties and her turmoil of emotions

Review & Giveaway: Never Let You Fall - Michele G Miller

Reviewer: Bex Rating: 4.5 out of 5 Fairies Never Let You Fall is a superb YA fantasy read, that was a welcome reminder of why I love this genre so much. From the opening, the author created a character and a scenario that was fascinating and captured my attention. She presents her protagonist, Skye, with a unique background and present; she is certainly an original character for this genre. This immediately piqued my interest. As the story unfolds, I was effectively engaged throughout by the character's dramas and endeavors, and once the author introduced Xander, the gorgeous protector, it didn't take me long to embrace my inner young-woman have get a new book crush. Michele G Miller's writing style is crisp and fluent. Never Let You Fall was easy to absorb and enjoy. The author's ability to create characters that you can relate to, have empathy for and actively cheer along was impressive. The change of setting was successfully managed. Michele G Miller

Review: Little 15 - Stephanie Saye

Reviewer: Charlee Rating: 4 out of 5 Fairies Little 15, well, what can I say? This is a book that will make you experience every emotion available as you follow the story of Lauren, a 15 year old basketball player, through a horrific time in her life. Seeing the story written through her eyes, reading the feelings that she has laid bare for us to see, almost makes you feel like you've been caught snooping through the girl's journal. Truly betrayed by someone who was meant to protect her, Lauren has to experience things that no 15 year old should, and without the support of her family.  Pushed too hard by her dad, ignored by her mum and disliked by her older sister, Lauren feels she has no place to turn when she finds herself in an unimaginable situation. Helped by someone she barely knows, Lauren must stop her secret from getting out, and her future depends on it.  I have nothing but praise for this book, written exactly how I would expect a fifteen year

Review: Stepping Stones - Elizabeth morgan

Reviewer: Vicki Rating: 4 out of 5 Fairies I really enjoyed this book. It is a sweet and heartfelt story of how a person can be insecure of their feelings and not know how to face them. I could feel what the main character, Maggie, was feeling as she struggled to come to terms with her decisions in her life and how she didn’t understand why she made them. When the realization hits her why, the outcome lead up to a touching ending.
