Guest Post & Giveaway: Author Michele G Miller

I am so stoked to be able to share June with all of you Bex 'n' Books peeps! Seriously, this is such a fun idea for an author. Thank you!! I just hope you don't get sick of me after only a few days :O

When Bex asked me to do a Guest Post this is what happened:
*Note- My Little Pony= HUGE deal in my house right now!

So yea, that was me. All bug eyed and scared. Why you ask. Because writing a post on some random topic is waaayyy harder than writing a ninety thousand word book, duh!

Then it hit me ba BAM (Yes, another thing that is big in my house right now)! I could write anything I want to!!

Want to hear about the time I met New Kids on the Block before they were known as KNOTB? How about my past as a child figure skater? The time I had 1,500 live crickets dumped on me for 2 minutes ala Fear Factor style?

Okay, so maybe NOT anything.

Thankfully, the lovely Bex gave me a few topics to choose from, and out of those I came up with my Thesis…er um…Guest Post idea:

The Most Difficult Part of Writing Never Let You Fall
Ta Da!!

So…the most difficult part of writing Never Let You Fall (referred to as NYLF from here on out, because let's face it- I'm a lazy typer!) was the ending.

Yep, that ending was killer. If you have read the book then you know it is quite a doozy of an ending. I knew that some people would be unhappy with the cliffhanger style ending, but it just felt right to me.  Know that I totally
sympathize with you on the cliffhanger! I am a reader too. I die a little whenever I read a book where my favorite character is left hanging in the balance. I get it! I also know that those cliffhangers live with me until I can reach for the next book. I'm one of those readers who love a good unfinished story to keep me hooked.

Let me explain.

First, you need to know that I do NOT plot out my stories. I mean I have an ending, I know where I'm going and I know a lot of the things that are going to happen. I just do not specifically put them into any type of outline form beforehand.

I am a fly by the seat of your pants kind a gal. I go where the wind, or music, takes me. You get that, right? So one day I'm just writing along when BAM, I come to this spot (the current ending) and I suddenly think "I think I just wrote a book!"

Just like that a silly grin appears. I'm pretty sure I danced in my chair too. I look at my word count- 87K- and I think to myself that's pretty good. You see I was at a place where I felt like I either had to end here (we will get to more of that in a moment) or I have to write another 30K words or so.

I didn't mind writing 30K more words, but everything I thought about writing led me to one spot- any other ending would not have the same impact as the one I have now.

I love my ending! Why? It conveys exactly what I tried to convey throughout the entire book- Xander will never let Skye down.

To me this series is like a slow building epic fantasy. You, as the reader, needed to read book one to be introduced to Skye and Xander and the bond that they share. You needed to know that these characters may only be teens but there is a force, a prophecy, at work in their lives. This is fantasy, not real life, so there is a bond that draws them together quickly and powerfully.

So when it came to my cliffhanger ending I wanted you to remember that Xander wasn't letting go of that bond. No matter what happens going forward- trust me there is a lot happening- Xander is going to be there for Skye.

I can't go into all of the details I would like to explain the ending or answer the comments I have received. I do not want to give it all away for those who haven't already read the book. What I can tell you is that putting a different ending on the story didn't feel right to me because it would have rushed a very important meeting.

So there you go. My most difficult part of writing NLYF was the part where I stopped writing it. I hope you don't hate me for ending it there. I hope you understand the feelings that went into the characters motives and decisions

Thanks for letting me share! I would love to hear from you. Stop by and see me on Facebook, Twitter or my blog and let me know what you think.
