Within the shadows, by Julieanne Lynch, is a fresh vampire read. We follow Giselle; a fairly 'normal' 18 year old. The book immediately grabbed my interest and starts off strong by introducing the characters effectively and setting a scene that's easy to visualise.
And then we have twists galore. After several chapters, I had to pause. I seriously did not see that coming! This is a good thing as I was totally convinced by the author's writing, and foolishly, I thought I had it all figured out.
Whilst the twists were successful, and on many occasions, I was truly impressed by the author's writing, the characters didn't always sit comfortably with me. Despite the strong start, there were elements of the plot that frustrated me a little. I completely 'felt' for Giselle, but there were times that I wasn't fully moved by the unfolding drama.
There's a lovely level of action, humour, and twists galore in Julieanne Lynch's Within the Shadows, certainly enough to keep me entertained. A very enjoyable read.
